The mission of the Lenexa Public Market is to create a gathering place for the community while providing culinary entrepreneurs a place to start and build their business. The latest addition planned for the food hall embodies both values.

Scheduled to debut at the Lenexa Public Market in January 2024, Cardboard Corner Cafe, featuring delectable waffles and an enthusiastic embrace of board games, will soon become a fixture of Lenexa’s gastrocentric gathering place.

With a flagship location at 9240 Metcalf in Overland Park, the Public Market location marks a second iteration for Cardboard Corner Cafe. They will succeed Red Kitchen KC, who is embarking on their own relocation journey to downtown Overland Park in the coming year.

“We are thrilled to bring Cardboard Corner to the Public Market in 2024!,” said Madeline Davis, owner of Cardboard Corner Cafe. “Since 2021, we have worked tirelessly to create a space where anyone can come to enjoy our unique menu, our accessible and extensive collection of board and card games and our spirited and welcoming community. We believe that expanding into the Public Market is a wonderful opportunity for gamers to mix and mingle with non-gamers, to celebrate culture and community that makes the Market special; to sit down as strangers, roll some dice, play a few hands of cards, and to leave as friends.”

“This is such a natural fit for the Lenexa Public Market,” said Public Market Manager Tessa Adcock. “They not only prioritize community building, but also deliver exceptional food options and customer service.”

Davis explains more about their upcoming menu at the Public Market.

“We are tailoring our existing menu of artisan waffles and shareables to the Market, adding breakfast and sandwich options. We have put together a Build-Your-Own-Boba menu, and our bar menu is expanding to offer a selection of cocktails that showcase local distilleries as well as premiering a selection of tiki-themed drinks. Furthermore, our sister company, Tabletop Game & Hobby, will be joining us – not only by furnishing over 250 free-to-play games, but also with a small retail presence. We are so excited to eat, drink, and game with you in 2024!”

As a preview of the fun to come, Cardboard Corner Cafe will take part in the Public Market’s Noon Year’s Eve Countdown event on Dec. 31. During this free event, guests come dressed in their comfiest pajamas to count down to the new year. This family-friendly countdown (at 12 p.m. noon, instead of 12 a.m. midnight) will feature prizes, giveaways, a time capsule activity and more.

Also beginning in 2024 as an ongoing partnership, the merchant will provide game options for Wednesday Family Night held at the Public Market each week from 5 to 8 p.m.
