Cosmo Burger, known for their mouthwatering smash burgers and crispy tots, is launching from the Lenexa Public Market to open a stand-alone restaurant in the Crossroads neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri.

Public Market Manager Tessa Adcock expresses her gratitude, saying, "Jacob Kruger and the entire Cosmo Burger team have been an unforgettable part of our market community, igniting a smash burger craze in Lenexa. I am incredibly proud of their accomplishments and wish them continued success in this exciting next chapter.”

Cosmo Burger creator/chef Jacob Kruger first opened in the Public Market in August 2022, after curating the menu at Cosmo’s original carryout-only, pop-up kitchen in Dodson’s Bar & Commons in Waldo during the pandemic.

While Kruger’s not ready to announce a specific date for the opening of the new space, located at 1813 Locust Street, he said it will open early summer 2025. The Waldo location will remain open.

“While the decision is bittersweet knowing that we will be leaving a community that we have thoroughly enjoyed, we will be moving into our first own brick and mortar space — a goal since the infancy of the business,” Kruger said. “We are incredibly thankful for the bonds we have created and the support we have received from the folks of Lenexa over the years. Since we opened our space in Lenexa, we have gained valuable experience that will help build the brand and business of Cosmo Burger and for that, we are immensely grateful. We hope to see you at our next location where we will serve up the same burgers, tots and cocktails you have grown to love. Thank you, Lenexa!"

Cosmo Burger will continue to serve their full menu at the Public Market through Saturday, April 19, 2025, with regular hours —Tuesday-Saturday: 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., Sunday: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Monday: Closed. This date marks their final day of operation at the market.

In mid-May, the Public Market’s anchor stall will be open for a new merchant. Food entrepreneurs with fresh concepts or a new twist on an existing concept are encouraged to submit a food vendor interest form on the market’s website. While all submissions will be considered, the next ideal merchant will complement the market’s existing diverse flavors.

Cosmo Burger joins other beloved former Public Market merchants, such as Chewology, Kate Smith Soirée, Red Kitchen KC, The Flower Market, and We Got Your Back Apparel, in establishing their own brick-and-mortar locations.
