Friday Night Sound Bites: Utepils Celebration

Say cheers to ~~outdoor~~ indoor beers with us on April 26! Utepils is a Norwegian term for enjoying a first beer outdoors each spring. Celebrate the return of warmer weather and our live music series with samples from local craft breweries, our beer'd and mustache contest and more during the first Friday Night Sound Bites of 2024.

Event schedule

Update at 3 p.m.: Due to forecasted rain, we’ve moved several activities inside. The food trucks and main band have been canceled. See the revised schedule below.

5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. – Try the pop-up restaurants

6 to 8:30 p.m. – Live music by Joe Oliaro duo (main Market floor)
6 to 7:30 p.m. – Register for the Beer’d & Mustache Contest (information booth)
7 p.m. – Ceremonial toast to spring by Lenexa Mayor Julie Sayers (main Market floor)
7 to 8 p.m. – Beer samples from Limitless Brewing, Transport Brewery, Pathlight Brewing (east side of the Public Market)
7:45 to 8 p.m. – Beer’d & Mustache Contest (main market floor)
9:30 p.m. – Last call for alcohol from Public Market Merchants

Do you have a dapper beard or stylish 'stache? We'll be the judge of that! Enter the annual Beer'd & Mustache Contest during Utepils. You could be crowned the champion of facial hair in several categories. Registration is from 6 to 6:30 p.m. at the information booth on the main market floor. The contest is free to enter.

What to know before you attend

Outside alcohol not allowed. Purchase alcoholic beverages from merchants.
Food and drinks available to purchase.
Patio seating available but we encourage BYOC — bring your own chair.
Free to attend. No tickets/registration needed.

Inclement weather plan

We hope it doesn’t rain on our celebration but if it does, we will move a few of the activities indoors: the beer sampling, ceremonial toast and the Beer’d and Mustache contest. The Friday Night Sound Bites band and food truck would be canceled.

We'll make a decision by 3 p.m. on April 26 and share updates on food trucks and live music on the homepage of our website and social media channels.

Grab a friend, get some grub and groove into the weekend. Join us for free, live music and flavorful food options from our merchants and rotating food trucks every Friday night (April 26-October 25) from 7 to 10 p.m. on the Lower Commons.
