Meet Ronda
I’m a coffee drinking, sports watching, music listening, exercise nut, and lover of food and healthy eating! After graduating from Kansas State, I’ve spent most of my adult life in various corporate accounting positions. But I have long dreamed of turning my love of food into a career. So beginning in 2014, I started some real steps to turn my dreams to reality. I’m now a graduate of the Academy of Culinary Nutrition and The Wellness Cooking Academy.

My philosophy about food has evolved over the years. From my meat and potatoes youth on the farm to a simple whole-food diet and many variations in between. Recent years have been a team effort with my IIN-grad husband, Brian, to provide the best diet and health habits for our now teenage son who has battled focus issues.

There is so much to learn about food and eating, but I believe this to be true: “Eat Well, Be Well, Live Well.” My goal with Ronda’s Cooking is to take the overload of nutrition information and break it down to a few simple guidelines. And to easily make food that tastes good!

Q&A With Ronda
We asked Ronda a few questions you might want to know:

Q: What excites you about teaching at the Public Market?
A: Sharing information about healthy cooking and providing people with options for the food they eat! Being able to participate in this wonderful space and become part of a new community within our hometown Lenexa. I love the concept the market promotes which allows entrepreneurs to build their businesses, including mine.

Q: What made you want to switch from a career in corporate accounting to food?
A: I have always loved to cook and dreamed of making a career of it. I've been a Food Network watcher from the beginning, practicing in my own kitchen pretending I was doing my own show. Cooking and healthy eating are real passions of mine.

Q: What’s your favorite healthy dish to make or eat?
A: Tough question — but I’m a huge stir-fry fan. There are so many variations of protein, veggies and “rice”. And it's a good fridge cleaner meal! Also love doing a healthy version of Mexican food, with homemade tortillas and enchilada sauce.

Q: What’s one underrated or overlooked food/ingredient?
A: Dates. I never bought or used dates until the last couple of years. They are a great sweetener, and can be used in everything from protein bars to sauces and frostings.

Q: What’s a class you’d really like to teach some day?
A: I would like to keep expanding into different cultures and types of cuisine.  The possibilities are endless!

Q: What can people expect from your classes?
A: The focus of my classes is always the simple, healthy spin. Classes will be fun and interactive and we won’t take ourselves too seriously. Drops and spills definitely have potential!

Q: What’s one thing you hope participants will say after they leave your classes?
A: I hope people will say they are glad they came to class and they would recommend to a friend and/or come back for another!

Q: Where might someone find you if you weren’t cooking?
A: Watching my favorite sports teams – Royals, Chiefs, Sporting and K-State Wildcats.  Or exercising!
